ASSIGNED TO COMBAT DUTY Sergeant John B. Trutt, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Trutt, of Mifflinburg, who resides at 955 Wyckoff .Avenue, Ridgewood, Brooklyn, N. Y., with his wife, Mrs. Mildred Trutt, and moth- er-iaq~tw, Mrs. Lueille Fiscin.a, was assigned to actual combat duty ov- erseas on Saturday, July 31. Sergeant Trutt enqisted in the United States Army in 1937, was stationed in Panama for a period of 3 years and for the past two years in' Brooklyn. ENLISTS IN COAST GUARDS Marlin W. Page, son o~f Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Page, of Page Kennels, Winfield, is .stationed at Curtis Bay, Md., training center after having en- listed at Williamsport for special training in ~he 17-year old group of the Coast Guard Reserves. VISITS PARENTS Pfc. Charles J. Spaid, stationed at Florence, S. C., spent a furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Char- les R. Spaid of Millmont, R. D. Pfc. Spaid was graduated from the Miff- linburg High School in the class of 1941 and was later employed at the Chef Boy Ar Dee plant/or ~some time He was inducted into the service January 29, 1943. He is also a grad- uate of enlisted branch 4, Louisana State College, Baton Rouge, La. ,IOIN8 HUSBAND Mrs. Charles Shirk of Mi.fflinburg, left Sttnday night for Tullahoma, Tenn., to join her husband, Sergeant Shirk, who had been on desert man- euvers in Arizona for several mon- ths. He is stationed in Tennessee at the present time. Mrs. Shirk is the former Betty Beaver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Beaver of this place. RECEIVES PROMOTION Donald L. Murray, son of Mrs. Miriam E. Murray of Lewisburg, has been promoted to second lieu- tenant, bombardier at the Army Air Forces Bombardier School Victor- ville. Calif. Lt. Murray is a grad- bate of Lewisburg High School, class of 1941 and served eight months with the Regular Army prior to his entrance in the Air Col;ps in Janu- ary, 1942. COMPLETES TRAINING Pfc. Paul E. Davies. son of Mrs. Galen Englehart, Mifflinburg, R. D. 1, has completed training and has been graduated from the Army Air Forces technical training command at Chanute Field, Ill. While attending this school he re- ceived instruction in the aircraft sheet metal course and in various technical operations vital to the maintenance of the country's fight- ing planes. RETURN TO FT. BRAGG Sergeant and Mrs. Carl Boyer of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, return- ed recently after spending a ten day furlough with their respective pa- rents. Mr. and Mrs. Boyer of New Berlin and Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Her- man of this place. VISITS HERE Pvt. and Mrs. George Frederick were Wednesday evening visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Metzger. Pvt. Frederick, who is a cousin of Mrs. Metzger, is in train- ing with the Paratroopers in Nort,h Carolina. ,~PENDS WEEK-END HERE Pfc. Paul Stees of Fort Monmouth, N. J., spent the week-end at his home in this place. WILLIAM L. DOEBLER RADIO SCHOOL GRADUATE Corporal Technician William L. Doebler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wil- liam L. Doebler of Mifflinburg, was graduated in Radio from the Na- tion Technical Schools, Los Angeles, Calif., on August 6. He left for U. S. Army duty witJh, the Union Coun- ty Contingent of Selectees in March, 1943. He was graduated from the Mifflinburg High School and prior to entering the army was a student at Pennsylvania S?ate College. Corp. Tech. Doebler is spending a furlough with his parents and friends in this pl.aee. He will return to Fort t~iss, Texas, where he is stationed at e present ~ime, on Wednesday of next week. liOME ON FURLOUGH Pfc. Lavier Johnson, 971 ST Bom- bing Training Squadron, Deming, New Mexico, and wife are spending fifteen day furlough with their respective parents in MiRon and ~r. and Mrs. Robert Badger of Miff- Jinburg. ROLLIN W. QUIMBY CALLED TO ACTIVE SERVICE Rollin W. Quimby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester W. Quimby of Mifflin- burg, was called to active service in the U. S. Army Air Corps last week. Following his enli~ment a year ago be was placed in the Reserves. Cadet Quimby, who was graduated in May from Ohio Wesleyan Uni- versity, is a member of the ground crew, Communications Branch, sta- tioned at Boca Raton, Florida, lo- ca~ted north of Miami. He is sched- u led to receive 12 weeks basic train- ing at Boca P~aton. Cadet Quimby met his parents in Weshin~ton, D. C., who were on- route home from a month's vacation. The Quimby family were guests in Washington of Mr. and Mrs. George Stephens and daughter Margaret.
